Late Payment after Cancelling

I cancelled my Koodo account and didn't realize I had a final bill with a small amount owing, it reported as a late payment. Is there any way I can get this removed from my credit history? I paid it immediately when I got the notice

Hey there,

If you paid the final bill right after seeing the late payment on your credit, you can try asking Koodo or the collection agency (if it got that far) to update the credit bureaus with proof you paid. Sometimes they can remove or update the late payment mark, but it’s not guaranteed since it’s already reported. You might also want to check your credit report and dispute any errors with the credit bureau directly if you think it’s wrong or outdated.

Did Koodo send you a final bill or notification before it got reported late? And do you know if it was sent to collections or just reported as late? That info helps figure out the best next step.

Once a payment is late on a bill, Koodo automatically notifies the credit bureau of the discrepancy. This wouldn’t be something that they can change as they’re required to report any late payment. Koodo would have also notified you via an email or text message of the final bill - so that may be hard to dispute.

If the balance has since been paid your only shot would be to deal with the credit bureau as it is not within Koodo’s power to remove the report as it was already sent.

Unfortunately, there is no way to remove this information. It may show on your credit report for up to 6 years, even though the payment was made after the due date. Since it was paid off not too long after the notice, it should not significantly affect your credit score.
