My daughter and I are travelling to the U.S. for 5 days soon. I’d really like to avoid paying the Easy Roam fee of $28 per day ($14 each) just so we can text each other.
My hope is to remove the Easy Roam Add Ons and just use pay per use for our texting (100 texts for $10).
However, I have a few concerns...
1) I’ve read elsewhere in this forum that you should put your phone in Airplane Mode if you want to avoid any roaming charges. But if we do this, will we be able to text each other? (I’m not very tech -savvy).
2) Can we still use data if we’re in a place that has WiFi without worrying about data charges?
3) Do the 100 texts a day include just texts we send to people in Canada and the US - or also any texts that we receive?
Thanks very much!

You will need to connect to the roaming network in order to  send text messages, but you can turn off data roaming.

Yes, wifi should work even on airplane mode, as long as you keep it that way. Once you turn it off, your phone will look for a signal, which will result in data leakage and trigger the Easy Roam charge.

Just to top up on MilkyWay’s response, we recommend checking this article for more info about how to prevent unwanted roaming charges

Thanks to you both for the information.
