Question

I wish to dispute 21 days roaming charges

Last month, I visited the Koodoo/Telus Store to transfer my eSIM to my new iPhone. Unfortunately, after the transfer, the settings must have reverted to the default settings, or I lost access to the two optional add-on settings I had chosen. I left the country at the beginning of March without knowing this and have been charged roaming fees for every day since, even though I haven’t used the phone. The phone was stored in a drawer because it’s not needed until I return. Initially, my prepaid plan options were set to receive texts without incurring roaming fees, but I was instructed not to send or answer calls while I was out of the country. I only discovered the charges today when I received my Koodo bill via email.

I kindly request consideration to remove or reduce the excessive roaming charges from my account.

We can flag a rep. They’ll review your usage logs and they’ll often waive first time stuff like this. Turn off Data Roaming in your iPhone Settings under Cellular then Cellular Data Options before your next trip. You’ll want to also toggle Airplane Mode on when crossing borders. What plan are you on and did you have Easy Roam or Canada US Mexico? What was the exact charge amount?

Which add-ons did you lose access to?  What were you not able to do with these missing add-ons?

Was the phone in your drawer in Canada?  If so it would be impossible to incur roaming charges if your koodo phone is in Canada.

Are you sure you are on prepaid?  Prepaid does not have add-ons and prepaid cannot roam outside of Canada and the US and roaming requires roaming boosters

Thank you for the detailed assistance. I truly appreciate it.

I have a prepaid account that I believe used to be called “Pay As You Go.” I subscribed to the Koodo plan about a year ago and chose the add-on to receive international texts so that I could get any 2FA codes, if needed. The charge for the 21-day roaming was $376, which included $16 for our overnight stay in the US and $18 per day while in Belize.

I logged in to my account and checked the billing page, but I don’t see a chat icon or any other dispute mechanism available. Is there something I’m missing?

If roaming is $18 per day in Belize, it is 100% most definitely not Prepaid / Pay as you go.

Prepaid is not able to roam in Belize.

It really sounds like you have Postpaid.

When you login to self serve, do you use the postpaid self serve or prepaid self serve?

I received 2 free add-ons initially. I believe the one add-on was “international sms” and I can’t remember what the other one was, probably higher data when in Canada. My original concern when I switched to Koodo was to be able to receive texts while outside Canada as I’m away for longer periods.
The phone is with me when I travel, not left in a drawer in Canada. The drawer referred to is in Belize :)

My mistake, don’t know what the correct name of the plan is however, I pay monthly, use the phone when I’m in Canada, have another local phone when I’m in Belize.

It sounds like you have a Postpaid plan with Easy Roam enabled.

Easy Roam allows you to use your plan like at home for a daily charge.  It is charged only when you send a text, use talk, or use data.
