We moved from BC to Nova Scotia almost 4 years ago. I have my phone and also my daughers phone on the same plan. I changed my phone number from BC 604 area code to a 902 Nova Scotia code.

My daugher did not change her BC 604 phone nuber even though she also has lived in Nova Scotia for almost 4 years.

I am being charged the following:

HST-NS $9.16 GST $5.17 PST-BC $7.24 Total taxes .............................................................................. $21.57

Why am I still being charged for BC taxes when we have not lived there for almost 4 years?

Thanks.

Hi there,

Taxes for each lines plan are determined based on the phone numbers area code while taxes for usage is based on the phone's location. This is why you would see two different tax chargers for this number as the number is in NS for usage, but it is in fact a BC area code.

To have this changed so that the taxes are based on the same province, your daughter would also have to switch to a NS number instead of keeping the BC one.

I also maintain a number outside of the province I currently reside in and another line with a number in the province. When you see the “taxes” section, it shows all applicable taxes for the total bill. However, when you check each indivdual line, you’ll see the taxes applied correctly to each line. So for your 604 number specifically, the total amount for that line will only show GST and PST-BC, and the 902 line will only show HST-NS. The amounts are correct per line, not per account.

Sales taxes in BC are 2% lower than in NS, so it saves a little bit of money incidentally.
