I have a monthly plan with Koodo, and want to transfer my esim from XS MAX to 15 PRO MAX (not purchased with Koodo). The new phone is a US version with no physical sim slot. To be able to transfer my number, I first purchased an esim voucher at the store ($11.50) and converted from physical to esim on my old phone successfully, thinking that i would be able to do number transfer between the 2 phones at home, which didnt work. The number transfer between the old and new didnt work although the old phone now has an esim.

My question: do I need to go back to store and purchase another esim voucher of $11.50 for my new phone? I just wanted to make sure that this is the right thing to do before I head out to the store for the 3rd time (the 2nd time, I was trying to request another esim voucher for my new phone but the guy was in a rush to get back to his phone call and gave me a Telus voucher instead, which obviously didnt work).

Thanks!

Did you transfer the physical sim to an esim in your phone settings?

Or did you activate the esim card you purchased in store, and then scan that into the new phone?

Or both? Or something different?

Thanks for the reply. I was unable to transfer the physical sim to an esim in my phone setting by “convert to esim” on my old phone (tried countless times and always failed), then I searched online and people suggested going to store to buy the e voucher), which was exactly what i did and it worked on my old phone. Now my old phone is on esim.

Then, I tried to: 1. transfer the esim to my new phone (didnt work). I followed all the necessary steps (setting -- celluar -- add eSIM -- transfer your phone number -- select the number tagged as “primary” on iphone Xs MAX -- click on “transfer SIM” on the old phone) and it always failed at the last step and resulted in the above screenshot , 2. scan the same evoucher that I bought at the store again with my new phone (didnt work). People on reddit said that evouchers can be only scanned once for safety reason, which led to my logical deduction that I might need to buy another evoucher for esim for my new phone.

Hope it clarifies.

I think you chose the longer path to transfer the SIM, you could simply transfer all data from the old iphone to new one first. After that, add eSIM to the new phone and switch SIM in self-serve.

As of now, you could try “eSIM Quick Transfer tool” here from Apple https://support.apple.com/en-ca/118669

If that doesn’t work, you would have to visit the Koodo kiosk again and ask them switch eSIM  for you.

You are right. I didnt know what I know now, and the new phone forcing you to update to iOS 18.1 which would be stuck forever during the set-up phase (if you transfer data from the old phone, instead of setting up the new phone without another device) is also a known issue, which added to the complication here. Converting from physical to esim on the old phone and then transfer number to the new phone does sound like having one more step than adding esim to new phone directly, but everything should have worked based on Koodo’s and Apple’s instructions, which I have followed to the teeth, and that one little extra step shouldn’t have been a hassle. However, nothing has worked based on these instructions. “convert to esim” on the old phone didnt work (which resulted in me having to purchase an e voucher at store), and “eSIM Quick Transfer tool” also didnt work.

Neither my old XS MAX nor the new 15 PRO MAX was purchased with Koodo, and I believe this could be the reason. My husband upgraded to 15 PRO MAX with koodo and his number transfer worked seamlessly by following the instructions. I have read a post with the similar issue (esim related) on Reddit and some people said that e vouchers for esim will need to be purchased again for the new phone. I just wanted to double check here before I go to the shop for the 3rd time which is very frustrating.

At this point I’m thinking of switching carriers as I believe the process with the big 3 would have been hassle free, and I know for a fact that they offer free evouchers for esims (got the telus one for free, although it was a mistake by the staff to have given me the voucher for the wrong carrier).

Thanks anyways for help.

Is your US iphone be unlocked?

Where did you get it from?

I have set up a new iphone previously and did a full device transfer during the new setup and our old iphone info including the esim moved over along with all our apps, data, phtoto’s etc. very seemlessly.
