MMS not working - should i switch providers?

I’ve been having problems with MMS, and after searching now see that Koodo started effing up their MMS Feb 7 https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/picturemessagingchanges, and the last time I receive a picture through MMS was Feb 9th. Since then not just pictures but also just text messages have not been going through if they are in an MMS chat, which I only realized recently after talking with people who’ve tried to send me messages.

It’s completely non-functional, i’ve done a bunch of googling and have tried a bunch of fixes (switching to 3g, resetting the network, etc etc), none of them work. I have 2 older phones, a xiaomi mi a1 (from 2017) and a sony xperia Z3 (2014). There is absolutely nothing wrong with either of them…other than that they don’t work with Koodo.

I am a relatively new Koodo customer, I signed up Nov 2023 during black Friday deals. My old provider of 17 years (Fido) was charging me close to $70 for the same thing they were charging new customers $34 for. They refused to lower my plan even though other providers (Koodo, Virgin) were offering equivalent deals, so I left. But now I see Fido is offering 50GB for $34 and nothing in their forums about MMS issues…. so I think I’m going to switch back since I would be a ‘new’ customer now. Such a pain in the butt. Is switching providers really the only solution? And then just hope Fido doesn’t try the planned obsolescence route?

If anyone has any solutions to get older phones working on the Koodo network please share. Otherwise this is just a rant about how it is such complete garbage that these companies are trying to force people to buy new tech. I could go on. lol.

Have you tried to switch the network mode to 3G only and tried to check your phone APN is the same as their email?

yes, as I mentioned above I’ve tried setting 3g, and the APN is set to sp.koodo.com

same as this guide https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/setting-data-your-non-koodo-phone

If you already did, there isn’t much you could regarding MMS with Koodo unfortunately.
