Currently traveling in Europe. Local SIM vendor says that I can set my European eSIM as my primary sim for data but leave my Canadian Koodo sim in the phone to continue to get texts. My Canadian plan does not include international texting…...will I be paying Koodo for every text?

Thanks,

Hi there,

So if you send a text, use mins of calling, or data using your Canadian number and plan you will be charged the easy roam daily rates if you have it enabled. If you don't have easy roam on your account then it will be the pay per use charge depending on what you use. However receiving texts are free.

With Easy Roam, for Europe it is $16 per day of use. Alternatively, you can also purchase a europe travel pass for either 14 or 30 days while you travel which will grant you access to your plan. Information on both can be found in the links below 🙂

International texting is for when you’re in Canada, otherwise it would be called unlimited roaming SMS or something like that. It’s always free to receive texts when you’re roaming, but it costs 60 cents per outgoing SMS, or activates the daily easy roam charge if you have it enabled. If you only want to be able to receive passcodes and such, you won’t be charged. Just be sure to set it so your phone uses the European esim for data instead of Koodo. You could even remove “international data roaming” from your self-serve as an additional measure. Then you’re only paying if you make the outgoing text, or make/receive a call with the Koodo sim.
