Ok, I’ve had a Koodo plan since 2019 when I got my first cell phone at the age of 54. I was gifted the phone, so I brought my own. As a disabled senior, I don’t need much of a plan since I don’t leave the house much and only make a few short calls per month, so a low cost fixed fee works best for me as I use the wifi in the home.

Currently I have a Pixel 4a and the battery is dying fast. I know I need to upgrade but I’m confused as to how the whole Tab thing works in the sense that… if I am now not bringing my own phone but possibly buying one through Koodo (aside from the monthly Tab cost of the new phone), will that change the current plan I’m on or can that stay the same?

Another question I have is I’m noticing that some phones are 5g, do they have to be matched to a 5g plan to be able to be used, or does it matter? I don’t think I have a use for 5g but don’t understand enough to make an educated decision.

Can I use the same phone number and the same SIM card?

Finally, if anyone has any recommendations that don’t break the bank they would be much appreciated. I know to avoid the Pixel 6a but the 7 and 8 series look decent though I hear they still get too hot (noticeable issue with the 4a). I prefer to stick with an Android phone. A decent camera is important to me as I take a lot of photographs. A decent battery life is important as 90% of the day I’m listening to live streams, watching vids or playing mobile games.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @SPAT64

We have looked into and your current plan is no longer current, so you might need to pick a new one if you decide to get a phone on a monthly tab.

At the cost of your current plan, you might be eligible to get a phone on tab basic. Usually, phones on tab basic have a lower monthly cost an higher down payment, depending the model and specifications.

You can check the current Koodo phones here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/phones

More about the  Koodo tab can be found here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/everything-you-need-to-know-about-tab

We have also sent you a PM with more details, feel free to check your community inbox when you get the chance. (To access your community inbox, click on your community profile at the op right, and then check the inbox section)

How much is your current plan and what does it include?

If you do not want to change your plan, you can buy a Google pixel phone directly from Google (assuming you are able to purchase a new phone outright) and just insert your existing sim into the new phone.

Or you can buy a used phone directly from a friend or family member.

Note that if you are using a phone all the time like you are, the battery will wear out over time regardless how good the battery life is. With your usage, you got a very good 5 years out of that phone.

Just saw this and thought of you. Check to see if you are one of the impacted.
