You get a hefty tab bonus with it meaning that if you leave Koodo or try to upgrade to a new phone before the 2 year contract is up, you have to pay out the phone. If you stay the full 2 years and don’t try to upgrade, then yes, it’s free.
It’s essentially a way to lock you in with Koodo for 2 years.
You also might need to upgrade your plan if you have a low cost plan. Usually, they want you to spend at least $45.00 monthly, and that is for Black Friday, would be over $50 at any other time of year. So depending on your circumstances, the phone might not be as free as you think.
