Just found out I need an eSIM QR code for my new phone. Is there some way I can get it online?

Hi there,

Koodo only offer eSIM vouchers in stores, they do not offer a way to get one online. So you would have to head to your closest koodo kiosk or telus store to purchase one. Just make sure after you aquire one to make the sim card swap in self serve before using the QR code otherwise it won't work. That, or you can ask the rep to do this for you. I hope this helps, more information can be found in the link. 🙂👍

Hey @Oliver C thanks so much for the quick reply! A few other questions:

Do I have to use an eSIM? Can I just put my physical SIM card from my old phone into the new phone? Is there a particular benefit to one or the other? How much does an eSIM voucher cost?

I had no clue I had to do anything with SIM cards until I actually transferred everything over. Surprise!😯

No problem 🙂

So you don’t have to use an eSIM, it is just another option for you as a consumer but you’re correct you can just use your old physical sim if you choose. There are a few benefits to switching to eSIM, some to note are if you travel frequently, you can have multiple eSIM’s on one device and just turn them on and off for whichever country you visit. There would be no need to remove  any physical sim and switch it and potentially lose it.

Another key benefit is security. If your phone is lost or stolen and someone takes out the physical sim card, without phone data on the device it will be difficult to locate the phone using either Find My iPhone or android equivalent. With an eSIM it cannot be removed, so your phone will be easier to locate if lost or stolen.

eSIM vouchers are usually $10 or $20 (they’re usually discounted to $10). If you have any other questions feel free to ask 🙂

You can absolutely use your old physical sim.

One of the benefits of a esim is that you can set up multiple sims (multiple phone lines) on your phone.  The physical sim slot is limited to 1 slot and 1 number.  This is utilized mainly for travel sims those with a person and a business line.

@Dennis Thank you!

@Oliver C  You truly are legendary! Thanks so much for this info. I especially like the added security an eSIM gives so I’ll toddle down to the nearest kiosk and get one. Much appreciated!
