I was on a $44/month plan up until Sept 2024, and I noticed Koodo automatically changed my plan and increased it to $49/month without asking my permission for the exact same plan. They have a “special offer” to bring me back down to $44 a month with 40 more GB of data, that I had to physically go in and apply to my phone plan. Quite scummy if you ask me. When you change plans via the self-serve function, there is no expiry date listed on the phone plan offerings. This is a terrible business practice.

After being a customer for 8 years, this is quite upsetting. I have even been on the same iPhone XS Max for years without any offering to upgrade me, considering my long-standing relationship with Koodo. I feel that they should try to keep their customers by offering them a phone upgrade that is a little bit of a better deal than the rest of the public. These black friday & cyber monday deals are barely competitive in comparison to the competition. I try to reach out and I can never speak to an actual person, only the same AI system that circles around the same answers constantly. Beating around the bush for me to schedule a call back. I’ve been trying to get a hold of a human for the past week now. I have better offerings by the more expensive competitors and I don’t think Koodo will retain me as a customer for much longer. Quite terrible service I have received after being with them for nearly a decade consistently, and probably close to 13 years overall.

Price increases happen with all carriers and they just need to provide 30 days notice before increasing costs.

As for deals, what deals did you see at other carriers that you want Koodo to have? They had quite a few for Black Friday.

You would see the 30 days advance notification on the last page of your bill before the price increase happened.

The deals you get are sent automatically. Who gets what deals when is based on an algorithm that’ll may or may not target your line based on your usage history and if you’ve had a tab for a time or not. I went years without any deals and then suddenly started getting them.

While the plans themselves were pretty identical by Koodo, I found that the phone deals were at least slightly better in general.  This Black Friday the deals were fairly matched or beat by EPP or Winback offers that people looked for otherwise. I’m surprised to hear you could never schedule a callback. It’s not supposed to keep you in circles to avoid a callback.
