Hello Koodo Community,

I plan on traveling to South Asia and the Middle East (Pakistan & Saudi Arabia) to visit family in late summer of this year (for a month or two). So I am on a post-paid plan which offers the usual LTE data, unlimited texting/calling nationwide within Canada, caller ID/call waiting (with VoLTE/WIFI Calling, etc) .

I added “International Voice Roaming” to my plan as a free add-on. Is this enough to receive International SMS? I do not have any intentions to use data, texting back, calling, but just receiving text messages with the cellular service. But since I have WI-FI Calling turned on, is it possible to use my phone service natively to call or text back when connected to WI-FI or rely on apps like WhatsApp?

Device: iPhone XS (iOS 15.4.1)

Please let me know, your help will be appreciated.

The voice roaming package will enae you to receive SMS. Definitely don't add data if you don't intend to use it. You will not be able to u see WiFi calling for your Koodo line for free. It will be charged as roaming. WhatsApp and other apps will work independently of what settings you do, as they only need any kind of internet connectivity, including just WiFi. I would use those apps to remain in contact back in Canada

Definitely get a local sim card for that length of travel. It'll be so much cheaper than easy roam.

Makes sense. Thank you.
