Hi there, I am new to Koodo and I was sure I have 20GB of data with my monthly plan. My phone itself says I have used 5.63GB thus far and the online account says 2.5GB of usage. I got an alert that I have exceeded my monthly allowance of data and I am unbelievably confused and worried about being overcharged. Please help.

Is the alert from Koodo or your phone’s app?

If self serve is showing you used 2.5GB out of 20GB then you should be fine and it sounds like it is the data app monitoring setting in your phone.

@anuratnam999 as @Dennis suggested, the alert likely came from your phone.  If you got it where you normally get your text messages (Apple iMessage, Samsung Messages, Google Messages, etc) then it was from Koodo, but in all likelihood it’s from your phone itself.

Our phones don’t have any way to know the details of our mobile plans, so you have to tell them.  It sounds like yours may have two problems:

  • The phone keep track of what day every month your plan resets, but given the large difference between the 2.5 GB Koodo thinks you’ve used and the 5.6 GB your phone thinks, I’m betting this date is incorrect in your phone, and thus it doesn’t know what day to reset to zero every month.
  • Your phone doesn’t yet know that you’ve got 20GB to work with every month, and likely has a warning set at a much lower amount.  You may have set the warning ages ago when on a previous plan with less data, or the phone might have a default setting that you’ve never updated.

If you’ve got an Android-based phone (including Samsungs), check out this article from Google: https://support.google.com/fi/answer/9458407?hl=en.  If your phone is an iPhone, check out this https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201299#:~:text=View%20how%20much%20data%20you,apps%20are%20using%20cellular%20data. and scroll to the “View how much data you're using” heading.  (Someone please reply if you have a better link for iPhones.)

Thanks guys. It did not come from Koodo, rather an alert internally on my phone. I think that answers it.i tried calling Koodo customer service but getting someone on the line is surprising a feat in itself!!!thank you
