I’m travelling in the US for a few months and planning to have my phone on airplane mode for the majority of the trip to avoid daily roaming fees. If I subscribe to visual voicemail will I be able to access my voicemails over wifi?

+4Visual voicemail needs cellular data to be on to receive. It doesn't work with WiFi. So if you are not roaming and your data is off , your visual voicemail wouldn't work.
