Hi everyone!

I keep getting these calls where someone with an accent calls me Ma'am. (I'm a guy tho)

They say they're from Rogers with a great deal, and I've been saying I'm not interested and to put me on their no call list.

Today they called me and I let the guy talk, and he inquired which provider I'm with. (He asked me Bell? Rogers? Virgin?)

When I said "None of those, I'm with Koodo", the phone call hung up abruptly.

I've blocked this number before, but they keep calling from different numbers (all staring with 514, which seems legit)

I'm concerned now that this may have been a scammer who hung up as soon as they got what they wanted. So this leads to my question:

What can a scammer do if they know my phone number and provider? And what steps can I take to protect myself?

Any insight or suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi there,

so Koodo have steps to prevent others from getting access to your accounts. If they were to visit a store and impersonate you, they require a government issued ID and must present your account security PIN to the rep. If they fail this, then they will not help them. If they attempt over the phone, they’re still asked your security pin, and if not, various authentication questions to verify their identity.

Just by knowing you’re with Koodo fortunately does not provide them enough information to access any of your account details as long as you did not provide them any other information. To be safe, you can always schedule a call back with a rep, tell them the situation, and they can note the account in case someone decides to attempt to impersonate you. That way other reps know 🙂👍

Hi @Mikido

Nowadays, there are many phising calls attempted by scammers, however, there are some measures that you can take to protect yourself and your personal information against potential scammers, we recommend checking this article here for more details

Koodo is also offering the Call Control, which is designed to reduce the amount of scam/spamm calls. You can add it in self serve, please check more about it here https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/call-control

Aside from that, we also recommend checking this article related to spoofing: https://crtc.gc.ca/eng/phone/telemarketing/identit.htm

Wow! Very informative! Thank you very much!
