Howdy you amazing people!

I am wondering if someone can help me understand how I delete photos from my tablet but not have them delete from my phone?! I use the gallery app if that makes any difference and I back up using one drive. Is this possible to do?!

What’s the end goal?

To save storage on your tablet but still have them saved in the cloud where you can view them on your phone?

Yes to save some room on my tablet as it has a smaller memory than my phone. I want to keep the pictures locally on my phone but only on onedrive on the tablet, if that's possible

What kind of tablet is it? Brand and Model if possible!

It's samsung a9+. I did end up deleting one file of pictures from the tablet and it also deleted them on my phone. I was able to retrieve them from my trash but now Im concerned to delete from the tablet as I don't want to completely lose my pictures, just don't need them on my tablet as I generally use it for school.

My phone is a samsung galaxy s22 ultra, if that makes any difference also.

Go to your gallery, the 3 line settings button, settings, sync with onedrive, and then free up device space. That should only delete from your device.

Oh thank you soooo much!! That was the fix I needed!!!

Glad it worked! Unfortunately, the onedrive sync option will delete across all devices, instead of giving the option when you want to delete something. It’s the reason I don’t use the sync option with my samsung phone and device combo.

Would I be best off to just turn off the one drive sync on my tablet and save this hassle ?

If it’s going to be a recurring issue for memory storage, I would.

However, Samsung tablets, including the A9+, have a micro SD expansion slot. You could take advantage of upcoming Black Friday deals to get a 200 or 256GB micro SD card to greatly increase the storage of your device. You’d just have to go into the camera app settings to change storage location. For the gallery app, you’d have to do something similar. But as I see it, the Samsung process is a little cumbersome. You’d create a new album, select the storage location on a device with a SD card installed, and then you’d move photos over to that album. I’m not sure if you do this, that onedrive sync would then copy again to internal storage. I’ve never tried this particular setup.
