I was having issues with getting notifications that I was at risk of roaming charges due to me picking up on a stray signal from the united states.  So I set my network as koodo and turned off scan for available networks to avoid this. Now I keep getting notifications that my koodo network is unavailable,  search for available network.  This only happens when I am at home and on wifi.  Why is this, and how can I prevent it. It's quite annoying.

If you woud like to use wifi calling, you would have to set the phone back to  automatic carrier selection though.

Make sure you disable data roaming in your phone as it can trigger data usage from foreign carriers.

I don't use wifi for calling. It's just weird that I only get that message when I am online at home using my home wifi to be on line

It’s unfortunate but it sounds like your just have poor koodo connectivity at your home or in that area.

A possible solution would be change to a Canada-USA plan, this way you can use the US network without fear of US roaming charges

I don't wish to switch plans thanks. The odd thing is, I am currently  on data, and I am not having the issue.  But on wifi I am.  I live on the border between Ontario and Michigan. So the fact that I get a stray signal now and then is not surprising.  I live in an apartment building, so sometimes  my data is not strong depending on the time if day. That's when I turn to wifi when I am home.  This is so weird. I have turned my roaming off so I don't get charges

Note turning off data roaming but if you still connect to a roaming network and use it for talk and text, you will still be charged for roaming.  You will need to  turn off roaming by manually selecting Koodo as your network to prevent roaming charges.

But if you do not get reliable service without turning on roaming then using Wifi Calling (at home) is a possible solution to get service when at home (assuming you have home wifi).

If you do not then switching to a Canada US plan is the nextr best option.

If that is not possible, then if the Koodo service/towers do not serve you adequately, you may need to explore other carriers which provides better connectivity where you are.

I am perfectly happy with koodo and I am NOT using wifi for calling.

If you are having issues with your network connection at home, Wifi Calling is a great free feature when your network connectivity is poor when at home.

As far as I know i don't need data or wifi for calling

We understadn you do not currently use wifi for calling. What we are suggesting is activating the wifi calling function on your phone, so you can connect with the Koodo network through wifi.
