Every year I will be out of Canada for 4 months and I will use another sim card for my phone when I’m not here. So can I cancel my Koodo mobile in those 4 months and buy a new sim card when I return to Canada? Because I just don’t want to pay $50/month for the thing I don’t use.

If you don't need to buy a phone on Tab, the prepaid is great choice too.
If you don't top up, you can pause the service up to 90days, and yop up your account before your account expired to continue using it.
