3 members of my family are using koodo mobile. However, on a recent trip to the US, only my 9-year-old daughter was charged for roaming, even though no one had set up roaming. She doesn't usually use data or calls very often, but her billing shows that she has used it for 1.25 minutes each day for 4 days. Isn't that just the time you guys proceeded to charge for the roaming fee of $56? Do you really think this is fair?

This is just how easyroam is displayed when it is triggered.

There are no actually calls made by the looks of it which means either texts were made or data was used. Can you check both of those in your usage section?

Yes. It seems like data was used for 1 minute

each days.

I still don't understand why you put that "trigger" like a trap and charge us unless we remove it.

Sorry I forgot to reply to this after speaking with our Koodo contact.

Easy Roam acts like a dormant add-on.  It is not a trap.  It only starts charging you when you phone uses talk, data, or send text messages when connected to a roaming network.

If you disabled Easy Roam, roaming charges would happen.  The difference is that it will be at the very expensive pay-per-use rates.

From your screenshot, it looks like roaming usage occured on July 2, 3, 4, 6.  These are not actual 1 minute calls.  This signals that something on your phone used talk, data, or sent texts at this day and time, triggering Easy Roam to activate.  If you look at your usage for data and text messages, you will see usage that occurred.  Possibly an errant text was sent or data was leaked.

The tricky part is that Koodo does not inform you when roaming usage occurred, so you are not able to correct any unknowing roaming usage, hence the bill shock here.  Also since there was no notification of easy roam starting, you are unable to be aware that you should use your phone fully since you were starting a Easy Roam paid for day.

But I still think it's a trap. My wife and I succeeded to dodge, but my 9-year-old daughter didn’t, so she is charged. If we need to roam, we can ask for it and use it, but the Koodo traps us to pull the trigger. It's bound to be a very disappointing way. Other carriers no longer throw traps if you block roaming in your phone settings.

Anyway, thank you for reply even though you are not a Koodo employee. I will change to the other carrier.

I’m sorry, were you expecting your 9 year old to knowingly avoid roaming 🤦🏾?

Yes, koodo can do better, but I think the issue here lies with the parent.

Next time take out your sim card if you want to avoid roaming and give your phone to a child.

haha. Out of topic.

The point is the method of roaming.
not about responsible for parents.
