Hello, I have a situation where I will be in International roaming.

  1. Will I be charged for incoming messages also (no outgoing).
  2. If I switch on the phone outside Canada, Will it be charged, too?

Please advice,

  1. No charge for incoming SMS BUT you have to turn on roaming to receive it.
  2. Make sure you follow instruction by Koodo here to manage roaming fee https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/understanding-how-youll-be-charged-while-travelling? Essentially, you need to turn off both data roaming and cellular data. Do not make/receive call and don’t send sms.

I am not sure if I am understanding it right.

If I turn on the roaming to receive incoming SMS, What is the roaming fees?

You only pay roaming fee when you actually “use” the roaming service. Sending SMS, using data, making/receiving call will trigger roaming fee.

The stated link states 16$ per day. So should I pay 16$ every day?

If I activate easyroam, De-activate Data roaming, Mobile data and don’t call or phone. Still 16$ will be deducted?

Thanks.

Hi @teddyjan

Any usage made in roaming, except for incoming text messages, triggers the daily Easy Roam fees.

Your phone still needs to connect to the roaming network to receive incoming text messages.

Please check the articles shared by Dinh above for more info about how to prevent unwanted roaming charges.

My Apology, your replies are confusing to me.

If I enable Easy roam, I have to enable roaming network as stated by you, I receive only incoming SMS, how much will be the charge?

Thanks!

@teddyjan As mentioned above, incoming text messages do not trigger roaming charges (so you won’t be charged for that), but you still need to have your phone connected to the network, otherwise you cannot receive the text messages.

Just make sure you don’t use data, don’t make/receive calls and don’t send messages. The articles that Dinh shared above explain how to prevent unwanted roaming charges.

I hope this answers your question.
