Hello,

I have traveled out of Canada and will not be returning anytime soon. If I suspend my services will I loose the mobile number?

Thank you and appreciate your help very much!

Hi there,

So if youre on a postpaid account then you can put yourself on a seasonal hold plan for 6 months. This reduces the cost of your plan to $15 a month if you own the device or $30 plus your tab if you're in a 2yr term. This keeps your phone number in case you return to canada, you would just need to choose a new plan once you return. Just know you can only do this once a year.

If youre prepaid, then you can go 90 days past your suspension then the account closes, so just be mindful how much time passes. Does this clear things up? If not let me know. More on seasonal hold can be found in the link 🙂

Hi @Oliver C !

Thank you very much for the prompt response!!

I’m a postpaid customer. It might take more than 6 months for me to return, perhaps even a year. What are my options? I want to retain my number as I have linked it to my bank accounts in Canada.

Thank you so much for your help again! Appreciate it very much!! :)

No problem! So seeming as you will be out of Canada longer than six months I suggest you reach out to a rep through koodo's social media pages as what I said before is the max you can do without the aid of a rep.

If you scroll to the bottom of this page, you will find links to their Facebook and X (twitter) pages where you can speak to a rep about a long term solution. Sorry I dont have much else for you here but those are the options that koodo provides 😅

Thank you so much for the prompt response again @Oliver C !

I have messaged them on their Facebook page. Not sure how fast I will hear back.

Btw, do you have any idea if I will loose my number if I suspend my services?

So as long as the rep puts you on a long term seasonal hold or something equivalent, you will not lose the number as long as you make payments they outline for you, for example the $15 a month etc as it won't be free to temporarily suspend the account but this keeps the number yours.

If a payment isn't made and sent to collections or the line is cancelled, this would make you lose the number. But that's the max that I know, when the rep gets back to you they will be able to outline your available options. If this doesn't answer your question let me know and I can try to explain another way 🙂

Got it, thank you very much for your hep!! Appreciate it so much!! :)

No problem 😎 good luck with the rep and happy holidays!!!

Happy holidays!!

If Bob the Electrician was on or maybe one of the other MM’s, can tell you how to transfer your number to someone like Fongo, I think it was. For peanuts a month, it’s a way to save your number if that’s important. Whenever you get back, you will have to sign up for a new plan regardless likely. I do not recall all the details.

That is correct. As @Fred C mentioned, you can port over to Fongo for a one-time fee and make or receive any calls from a Canadian number. For an extra cost, you can add unlimited text messages as well.

Alternatively, you can move your number to voip.ms and pay a small amount for every call that you make.

Hi @Fred C and @MilkyWay

Thank you for the suggestion! I’m not familiar with this provider. I checked their website but it looks more like a mobile application than a telecom provider?

It is not a traditional carrier, but it should allow you to keep your Canadian number. Once you return back to Canada, you can then either choose to stick with Fongo or port back to Koodo or another carrier.

@Kai24

This site might be what Bob always referred to

Fongo World Edition

Another possibility is Seven Eleven Speakout. For $25/ year you get to keep your number on prepaid. Mind that you won't be able to use it while abroad, but it's a great way to park your number.

Then when you get back to Canada you can port to another provider again.

@Fred C  @MilkyWay

Great! Thank you so much for the information!! I have reached out to their support team :)

Hi @Sophia !
