Subject: Billing Dispute for Calls to Nigeria

Dear Koodo Customer Service,

I signed up with Koodo specifically because of the advertised unlimited calling to Nigeria. However, I have been charged over $2,000 for calls made to Nigeria, which is both shocking and distressing.

I have made multiple attempts to resolve this issue by calling customer service, but I have not received any satisfactory resolution. My wife, who encouraged me to sign up with Koodo, has been a loyal customer with four active lines. This situation is deeply concerning, as it undermines the trust we have in your company.

I am requesting an immediate review of my account and a reversal of these charges. If the terms of the unlimited calling plan have changed, I was not notified. I would appreciate your urgent attention to this matter to ensure a fair resolution.

Hi @Ade5689, we can see you’ve been in contact with our call center team since September 22nd when one of our agents added a partial credit for the charges and an add-on for long distance calls to Nigeria. If you would like to discuss this further you can schedule a call-back through our Koodo Assist or send us a private message on Social Media via Facebook, X/Twitter or Instagram.

How much per minute did Koodo charge me for calling Nigeria? Right now, I have a balance of $1,821.67. How did Koodo calculate this amount? Did they charge $0.09 per minute? Is there an agenda against Nigeria?

So, the standard pay per use rates for Nigeria is high; $3.50 per minute. These are standard rates as it costs a lot for carriers to provide the calling service, if you check out some of the other countries, the pay per use rates are high too, not just for Nigeria.

Going forward, you can add a pay per use saver to your account, this would reduce the cost to $1.25 per minute which is considerably less. It would just be an add on for $7 a month. I suggest you familiarise your self with the pay per use rates in the link or consider calling over free apps such as what's app or Facebook book messenger.

Is it the normal charging for all your customers? I don’t think so because my wife has: $0 200min LD Add-on (Nigeria) + $0.09/min PPU
Service effective on: August 09, 2024

The standard rates for every koodo customer are what I stated above unless the customer has an add on that changes the price. Seems your wife managed to apply an "add on" to make it cheaper. Where as you do not.

This would have to have been added by her or a rep, it is not something automatically there as a customer. Normally you're just subjected to the pay per use rates. That's why it is classed as an "add on" as it is not there by default. So yes, the rates I presented before are what are charged to all customers unless they have an add on to reduce the cost or if they have an add on that provides free minutes, such as your wife.

Koodo decided to remove Nigeria from the unlimited calls and starts charging $3.50/mins. How’s that fair to customers after you lure them in with unlimited Nigeria calls? Now, customers have to pay $3.50/minutes for unlimited calls.

Unfortunately plans and add-ons can change.

Koodo did give notification to customers.

If you feel this is not enough and the partial credit is not enough, you can request a callback via koodo assist and speak with a rep

My suggestion, if you haven’t yet, is to reach out again, and try to talk the charge to be chaanged to 9 cents per minute, as that is the rate on the add-on you mentioned. Unfortunately, there’s no guarantees that will be done. But I think that should be a fair compromise if Koodo has it as a zero dollar add-on.

I’ve noticed a pattern of Nigeria being removed from the country list being called as “discrimination” when it’s likely all that happened is the roaming partners started asking for more money than is realistic to make unlimited. What I don’t agree at all with is that the notificaiton is in small print on the final page of bills. It’s one thing if that notificaiton is a 5 dollar plan rate increase. It’s another when it’s a change that can cost thousands of dollars. I really don’t like that this is forcing people to regularly look over the last page of their bill for any changes, but that’s what’s being done.
