Hi

I  arrived in the US on December 5, and was notified that I have easy roam package. I did not sign up for easy roam, it is not part of my add ons or perks. Despite that, I’m being charged $14 every day for easy roam. I can’t discontinue it and I can’t stop it because it is not on my plan. How do I stop it and get the charges reversed?

Thanks

Hi @Ramonajo

If you are referring to the charges on the most recently issued bill, we see they were triggered by voicemail and a call.

If the charges are on the pending bill, please let us know once the bill is ready and we will look into it.

For more info about how to prevent roaming charges, please check out this article https://community.koodomobile.com/plans-services-232910/easy-roam-understanding-how-you-will-be-charged-while-traveling-7811296

Thanks Flo. The bill is ready. Its due Jan 2 and there are three $14 charges plus 2 more charges in this current billing cycle.  I was charged every day for easy roam that I had not approved.

I am now not using my phone at all as I don’t want to risk any more charges. That's a drag because I’m on holiday for several weeks. I did not give Koodo permission for the easy roam add on. In my account I see that there are numerous add ons that I didn’t ask for or give permission for. I need them all removed. I was charged $14 per day rather than the pay per use which I had used in the past. I sure would appreciate this getting resolved. Its a rather unpleasant way to start a holiday.

I should also mention that I was directed to go to Facebook and message Koodo there. As I am not very technical, I googled Koodo on Facebook and ended up with a fake Koodo website and am now  at risk of fraud. They asked for all kinds of information which I gave thinking that I was communicating with a Koodo CSR. I ended up on the phone with my bank and the credit bureau for several hours due to fears about fraud. For people who aren’t on social media or not technically inclined, this way of trying to resolve issues is quite frustrating and challenging. What happened to good ol fashioned customer service by phone?

A friend has been helping me to try and solve this matter and it appears that when I got my new phone and plan in December 2023, several add ons were included that I didn’t ask for and was unaware of. I do find the bills extremely confusing, thus I don’t even look at them, I usually just pay the bill. In any event, I fear using my phone now and am being charged for things I didn’t even know I had and I have no understanding as to how to prevent these charges moving forward. The whole thing has been so stressful and frustrating. And this is the first week of my retirement. :(

There are links to Facebook and Twitter at the bottom of this page that take you to the proper pages. I’m sorry to hear you accidentally picked fraudulent pages.

The option to roam can be included at sign up. There are 2 main add-ons for that as well as easy roam being the third.

Going to the US will not stop roaming if you remove those 2 international roaming add-ons, since the US and Canada telecom systems are pretty integrated historically. What you can do is turn off the option for data roaming in your phone settings, which should at least stop that.

If you’re not sure how to google how to do it, you can let us know your phone model or ask a friend and we can gie you the info.

Then you have to be aware that any calls you make (including checking voicemail) will incur roaming charges, as well as text messages you send. The US has some cheaper (relatively) pay-per-use roaming rates you should be aware of as well. Calls are $1.60 per minute, and you can send 100 text messages for $10. Data is $50 per GB. Generally not worth it.

Will you be in the US for a long time? You have other options if you will be.
