When I need to verify a bank transaction, I need my phone, or I would have long since cancelled my account.  I dutifully pay $50/mo for a phone I never use except once or twice a month when I need to RECEIVE a text.  This is supposed to be free, but I am charged $16.

I think I’m getting fed up with all of these $16 fees.  I turned off the terrible roaming deal (nearly $500/month!!!!) and still $16 $16 $16 $16 $16 $16 until the cows come home.  For receiving texts!  Koodoo, you are cheating me.  Straight up cheating me.

Hi there @Robyn Blaber

We verified the days with the charge on the latest invoice and found that on October 31’st there are 2 sent text messages while roaming, you can check the phone history and in the Usage section of the Self Serve account as well. For the charge on November 14, the charge was triggered by an answered incoming call, as can be seen on page 8 of the invoice when the downloaded as PDF.

A similar situation is present on the previous invoice of October, with the addition of a low data usage.

Receiving text messages does not trigger the Easy Roam charge. I will also include a help page that offers more details on how roaming is charged:   https://community.koodomobile.com/plans-services-232910/easy-roam-understanding-how-you-will-be-charged-while-traveling-7811296

Why is there an easy Roam charge triggered at all when I have removed Easy Roam from my account?  You charged me $16 dollars for 2 texts.  8 dollars per text???  Are you MAD?  That is robbery.

How long was the incoming call?   I was charged another $16 for receiving a quick call that was less than a minute long?  Again, are you mad?  You’re working for a company of cheats!  I have been cheated again and again.  Please rectify this or just admit this company is a haven for corporate fraud.

You're certain you successfully removed easy roam prior to these charges?

Easy roam is triggered by any usage. Two texts still triggers the daily charge. Yes, you were charged easy roam for receiving a call. Wherever you are, the pay per use rate is up to $3.50 per minute and 60 cents per outgoing sms. So you have to decide which you would rather pay. You can call it robbery. I certsinly think it's overly charged, but it's the rates. The pay per use.

Also you neve said i your original post that you did answer a call or sent outgoing SMS.

This is the “normal” rate for any carrier. If it's too much for you to receive texts, and make the odd calls, there are other options. Honestly I'm surprised you're keeping a Canadian number active for 50 dollars a month and easy roam charges if you're going to be out of country longer term.

If I turn off the 16 a day for the rest of my life EZ Roam service and it turns back on whenever I do anything with the phone, what is the point of turning it off?  Is there any way to turn it off and keep it off?

I’m really really tired of being cheated here.

I don’t understand why it’s re-adding automatically each time. That certainly shouldn’t be happening. I’d consider opening a technical support ticket for that particular issue. But again, keep in mind that you’re paying from $2-$3.50 a minute receiving or making phone calls, and 60 cents per SMS. 2 texts total is certainly a lot cheaper, but it takes ver little to equal out easy roaming. I’d be looking at other options personally.

You can remove international data roaming from your add-ons. That’ll restrict you to talk and text. Then you could only kick in easy roaming charges if you make or receive a call, or make an outgoing SMS. You’d still receive 2FA texts and not worry about data being the reason.
