I want to change my son from an additional line on my account to his own account… but there’s a $50 fee to do this. If I cancel his line and he sets up his own account, will he have to change phone numbers?

If you cancel his line, the number will be lost.
Another option would be to port your number out to Koodo prepaid or another carrier. But those may contain activation or sim card purchase fees.
