I have a family member who lives in Canada but is still using his American phone/phone number. I don’t have a long distance plan and called him and was charged as if I had called someone in the US. Is this correct or should I not have been charged because the person and phone were physically located in Canada. Thanks!
This is 100% correct.
You called a US number so you pay US long distance charges
Okay thanks! I can just eat it. The irony is I do all my calls through wifi calling because cell reception at my place is drap so I wasn’t even using the Koodo system….
It doesn't matter if it was with wifi calling. It still counts the same as calling through Koodo since you are still using the Koodo service and number.

That is with Koodo. Rogers/Fido wifi calling doesn’t work the same way.
Fido’s wifi calling is slightly different (mainly when roaming - note Koodo does not have wifi calling while roaming enabled).
While in Canada and calling a US number (regardless if it is a US number traveling in Canada), long distance charges will also apply.
