When I am at home, using my home wirelss network for data and such on my cell phone, would it not also work for making phone calls out of country so I don’t get billed for long distance?

In the past I have always made calls to my kids in the US from my home network and have never been billed.

I just got my bill today and I have a charge of almost $60 for a single long distance call on Christmas day. There was nothing different done, I called the same way I always have previously, but now I have a bill?

I am quite displeased at this moment to see this as it’s never happened in the 12 years I’ve been a customer, why suddenly now?

Would be great if a Koodo representative can chime in on this and get me an answer.

Did you have a long distance add-on previously?

You can login to your self serve and go back to your previous pdf ebills (back 18t months) to see your long distance calls.  Can you find a bill that shows a long distance call with no additional charges?

But in general, unless you are calling with Facetime, Zoom, or other data based app, any calls using your phone app will incur long distance charges unless you you have a long distance add-on.  No exceptions.  This is how the service works.

I looked at the last 18 months of my billing and  sadly, nothing is jumping out at me, however, I changed my plan just about a year ago. I suppose that may have altered/changed something that I had previously had (had a very old plan that isn’t offered any longer) and now am being charged in a way that I am not used to seeing.

I will certainly be avoiding those phone calls now, unless they are either incoming or using data based apps so no charges. I am told they no longer offer the US/CAN plan, thankfully that is still on one of my childrens phones and I will make sure that is NEVER changed/altered or the bills will become unpayable.

You live and learn, I guess.

When I login to Self serve, then go to Manage Plans then Change my plan I still see some Canada-US plans.  Did you have a look in your change plan area?
