Where are the Windows Phones?

Userlevel 1
I'm terribly disappointed to not see a single windows phone anywhere except under the prepaid. I was hoping to get one next week when my Bell contract expires... Oh well, I guess it will have to be a boring Android

And to add insult to injury, Koodo actually increased the price of the Lumia 635 from an already inflated $200 to a ridiculous $218!! Hey Koodo marketing geniuses, you can buy an unlocked Lumia 635 with free shipping directly from Microsoft for $149!!

Unfortunately windows phones are extremely hard to sell and as such it doesn't make financial sense for Koodo to sell them just like BlackBerry devices. Curious why you think windows is great but Android is boring?

They're not at all hard to sell. In my own experience selling phones on the grey market, they're only behind iPhone and Samsung Galaxy model range. I've always sold them much faster than other Androids. The only thing that always takes forever to sell is BlackBerry (pity, since they're great phones as well). A phone won't sell if the sales reps don't make a push for it. In my experience, they've actively tried to get me not to buy a WP device. No wonder it doesn't sell in stores.

Just going by what Koodo has told us as the reason they don't carry more than what they have.

Koodo is getting the Lumia 435, after all.

I want a low-mid range phone. The Androids offered in that range are feature-poor compared to the Windows phones of a similar price. The Moto E sort of looks good, but the lack of flash, small cameras (on both sides) and lack of memory (1gb is not enough for modern Android) are handicaps.

Check out the Nexus 5 or Galaxy S4 both are mid ranged priced. The Galaxy S4 has a very solid camera, good power and battery life and all the features you could want.

The Nexus 5 is out because it doesn't have expandable memory. The S4 is an option... maybe, but I was hoping for less than the $15 extra per month for the phone. I can't afford a lot and they really didn't adjust the plan prices enough. My monthly limit is only about $35 per month (which the Lumia 635 was before the "improvement"). And I have no real need for data as I'm regularly within accessible WiFi.

BLU just released the LTE version of the BLU Win HD and is available unlocked from the Microsoft store at $229 and it is dual sim which is a bonus. BLU has committed to upgrading it to Windows 10 when available. My husband has BLU Win HD and it is an excellent mid range phone and has received timely software updates.

What type of glass is on it? My wife has managed to destroy the glass on two Samsung S3's (I believe they are Gorilla Glass 1?), so I want some form of hardened glass. 🙂

Not sure about the glass. Regarding the 635, just because Koodo removed it from the store (except for prepaid), I think you will still find it at some store locations for $168 with no tab or $0 with $7 per month tab. The plan cost has been reduced to incorporate the small tab charge. Net effect is the same. Pre April 19, you could get the 635 for 0 on the 35$ plan. Now you can get it for 7$ plus $28 for the plan. Total cost is the same and you're actually getting more data now.

I've had the BLU Win HD and was happy with it. But, as I wanted a mid-to-high end WP, I got my hands on a Lumia 830 and haven't looked back.

I did try the BLU Win HD but had to return two of them because of battery/overheating problems, and got a 635 instead. No problems so far. I had a look at the 830 but didn't want to spend $500.

Why is the prepaid Lumia 635 $59 more from Koodo, than from Microsoft? No wonder they are a hard sell.

Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for the Lumia 635. First phone I've never had to put in a case and it's held up exceptionally well. A definite improvement from previous versions of Gorilla Glass. Heading: Display http://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/mobile/phone/lumia635/specifications/

I have the 635 as well with no case. Dropped several times and thrown in my purse with keys, not a scratch to be found. It does attract finger prints though.

I haven't been able to damage my L635 without a case through normal usage either.

And now the 635 has totally been removed from the line up, even for prepaid. So has the affordable Samsung Galaxy Core which I was looking at for my son. What the heck is Koodo thinking?
Userlevel 1
They're thinking that nobody wants an inexpensive phone because there's no margin in it.
Userlevel 3
Well there definitely seems to be a theme going on, the MOTO G has also been removed.

I read that article too... Where's the 435? And it's not that great. The 635, although a year older is much better (in my opinion).

It's not live yet but Best Buy will be selling the 435 on a Koodo prepaid for $89.99

That's somewhat good news. It wouldn't be my first choice of Windows phone, but it's better than nothing. Could one buy a "prepaid" phone and put it on a plan?
