Unlocked Rogers HTC 8x on Koodo

Just wondering if Koodo needs both 1700/2100 bands for LTE? Phone is LTE capable, 1700/1900 band 4 but for the life of me I can't get better than 4G in Hamilton. Others on Telus seem to have no problem getting LTE on their 8x phones from their fourms. Not a real biggie but 4G for me isn't to fast, 10-13Mbs at best.

No it should be good to go, according to GSMarena. Have you looked into Settings > Cellular > highest network level set to LTE?

How old is your sim card? Older sims are not LTE compatible

I didn't think of that... I'd assume most people are using V3 SIMs at this point but I guess there may be some older ones floating around.

Following Dennis's post: look at your SIM card #. If it has 5 zeroes in the middle, then it's probably a V2 SIM and you'll need to buy a V3 to get LTE (they only have 4 zeroes in the middle).
Set to LTE. Ahhh, the sim card. Bought off ebay, prepaid card was blue so that could be it but from my understanding the older cards were only 3G and couldn't get 4G either but I could be wrong. The SN had 4 zeros in it which means v3 if I read it right.

4G is actually LTE. Phones and carriers just display it as 4G versus 3G because it's called HSPA+ (up to 42 mbps) versus "regular" HSPA which caps at 21 mbps. "Real" 4G is LTE, starting at 75 mbps.
Thanks. Just I don't even get HSPA+. Could be Hamilton although it is supposed to be LTE area on Telus/Koodo. Others are getting 50-60mbps on telus with the same phone though it may be Toronto people. Oh well, maybe one day I'll see the LTE symbol appear. lol
