Using positive Tab to purchase phone to be used with another company.

Can I do this? I have enough tab monies built up to purchase a phone for my granddaughter however, she is stuck to a two year plan with Rogers. I have checked with Rogers and this phone is one that Rogers sells as well. When you buy a phone am I right in saying that it is not locked to Koodo? Thanks, Kim

Every phone Koodo sells, other than the Nexus 4, is locked to Koodo. This is standard practice for any carrier.

Well, just because it's locked doesn't mean it can't be used. You can alwasy have it unlocked. They do stipulate that phone has to be on koodo's network before it can be unlocked though.
Does that mean that I would have to set it up with an account on Koodo and then have it unlocked? Is there a charge for setting it up on Koodo and/or for having it unlocked?
To unlock a phone with Koodo: Must be active an an account for 90 days. Must pay $50 unlock fee. Billing must be up to date with no pasty due balances in the last 90 days. If none of these are met, you will not be able to get the phone unlocked through Koodo.

The phone would need to be on the account for 90 days before Koodo can unlock it. There is a fee of $50 do to so. I would suggest using the positive tab to get the phone, use sites like http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop/ or http://www.cellunlocker.net/ to unlock the phone. I usually don't provide 3rd party sites given who I work for hahaha BUT she is stuck in contract and I feel for her 🙂

I also highly recommend the latter, as I've used them many times.
