TabLarge, in its current form, needs some rethinking!

Everybody knows by now that TabLarge plans plain suck. I'm not making this up, a quick look at the chart shows that it's very embarrassing to sign up for these plans, compared to their less-terrible regular plans. Some reps could testify: no one signs up for them. If that was the plan all along, then bravo! It's working, no one wants TabL. If not, then here's an idea! I've made it known before, but never submitted it as an idea. Here goes. Instead of having dedicated (and terrible) TabLarge plans, simply make it a $15 contribution on top of any $30+ plan, like current TabMedium. Example: A monthly $40 plan, on TabM, costs $40 + $5 + tx The same, on TabL, would be $40 + $15 + tx That's a difference of $10. Over 24 months, this turns into $240, which is more than enough to cover the $200 difference in initial subsidy. Suddenly, customers would sign up for this, and with a $500 subsidy to buy out you can rest assured they're not going away to another carrier anytime soon. Do this. Stand out (a bit more) from the pack!

Sounds good to me! Heck, I could actually see making the Tab L charge $20 and it would probably still be better than the way the plans are now...

I agree Jonathan, but there's a big question mark at $20. Over 24 months, that's $480, so almost full subsidy ($500), rendering Koodo's 15% contribution a moot point. There would need to be some kind of perk included, or else, said person would be better off buying outright and getting 10% off.

This would allow the largest subsidy on a $49 plan. Maybe you would start to have some takers at that point, although there's probably a better value plan for someone who needs a $500 subsidy.

One suggestion I want to add to this idea, so that Koodo finds it "a good business decision", is a minimum rate plan required. I'd say at least a $40-50 rate plan (as it was with 3year terms), then add the tab charge. Koodo needs a way to make a good amount of money on these plans and this is it. Higher tab charge and a higher rate plan requirement than Tab M.

This is THE IDEA OF THE YEAR imo, I think it's a win win for everybody. The way it is now it's like it's just made to rape the wallets of the stupid & have users fault on their payments and in that case Koodo loses customers for life which is never good. . In just 8 short days this idea has recieved 16 up votes which seems like a record to me so Koodo if they truly are listening (I know you are lol) then I'd get working on this ASAP

If the price is just built into the plan price that may be bad for BYOD.

No, it would actually have a better incentive to go BYOD as people would see the true cost of devices. There should actually be bigger discounts to accommodate BYOD customers because it's still 10% off while people get a 15% Tab reduction and 24 month guarantee so Koodo more often than not will pay more into the Tab each month than a 10% discount would be on a SIM-only customer.

DB = device balance current TAB Breakdown: Tab S = $150 DB /24mo 150/24 = $6.25 from plan towards phone ($0 tab charge) Tab M = $300 DB /24mo 300/24 = $12.50 from plan towards phone ($5 tab charge) Tab L = $500 DB /24mo 500/24 = $20.84 from plan towards phone ($10 tab charge) current PLAN Breakdown: Tab S = minimum $29/mo ($696 over 2 years) Tab M = minimum $34/mo ($816 over 2 years) Tab L = minimum $80/mo ($1920 over 2 years) From Tab S to Tab M: the difference is $120 in 2 years.... From Tab M to Tab L: the difference is $1104 in 2 years..... it SHOULD be like this: Tab L = $500 DB /24mo 500/24 = $20.84 from plan towards phone ($20 tab charge) Tab L = minimum $49/mo ($1176 over 2 years) That way Koodo still makes a LOT of money and we SAVE A LOT of money. Plans like this WILL work: Tab S = (29 + 0)/mo = $29/mo for 100min and a device worth $150 Tab M = (29 + 5)/mo = $34/mo for 100min and a device worth $300 Tab L = (29 + 20)/mo = $49/mo for 100min and a device worth $500 Wouldn't that work??

I hear ya, David. It's a good idea but we just won't be able to execute it the way it's laid out. That said, I know that this post is being looked into and I hear that the comments/follow ups are insightful for my broader team here.

So, as someone who works with mobile phones, including Koodo Mobile, I'll throw out Koodo's logic behind the current tab system. Their idea is ensure that the % you get back (15%) + addition to your bill from the tab ($5 for TabM and $10 for TabL) will be enough to pay for the value of your phone within 2 years. It's sort of their way of getting you into a 2 year term without calling it one. Paying out of the tab effectively works identically to the 2 year terms from other providers. If you make the tab addition $15 then your plan would need to be at least $60 for your phone to be paid off.

Sean, A $15 tab contribution is $360 over 24 months, which only leaves $140 for Koodo to recoup. $140 over 24 months is $5.83, and $5.83/0.15 = $38.89, so with a $39 plan and a $15 tab contribution added on top, Koodo gets their full $500 back in 24 months. No need for a $60 plan. 15% of a $39 plan is $5.85 (this is Koodo's contribution) You then add $15 to this (this is your own contribution) Together, that rate is $20.85 (the rate at which the phone is paid back) $20.85 x 24 months is $500.40.
