Stupid Rule of needing to have physical SIN card.

Was going to get my line ported over to Koodo, when i was going to do it, they requested a credit card, (I dont have a credit card as i have no use for them) drivers liscence and SIN card. Why would they possibly need to have my SIN card if i am more than willing to give my SIN number. So wont be going to that company. Their slogan to make sure customers happy....right.....When your not happy even before you become a customer probably not a good idea to go with them.

http://help.koodomobile.com/getting-started-with-koodo/before-you-purchase/do-you-perform-a-credit-check It should not be mandatory by itself but rather it's one of the three pieces of ID that's acceptable for a credit check. If you had a driver's licence then you should not have had to also provide your SIN card. If I had to guess I'd say Koodo is required to ask for the physical card as part of anti fraud measures. Even if it's not a picture id card.
I have no issue on giving the number...I even volunteered other pieces of documentation with it. Even when you go for a bank loan they don't ask you for the physical card.

My bank has had my SIN since my early teens. They have confirmed it in the intervening years, but not requested it anew, so of course they do not need it for a loan - they already have it.

Any carrier will refuse to take the number verbally.  There is no proof that it's your number.

When you have a document with your SIN number from the Government that not only shows your name and address but the SIN Number and you also have two other documents. And they say they need the physical card, yes I think its a bit much.

So its not only verbally.

Further, the government no longer issues a card, but a letter. I know I'd be leaving that in a safe place, and at best using a copy anywhere I needed it! Carrying a file folder around to provide credit information becomes a bit much.

Goran, any time that I've upgraded or got a new line, even with the Driver's License I've had to show a 2nd piece of ID.  They usually ask for either a credit card, SIN card, birth certificate, or passport.

I posted the link for required id. There's 2 in total with one for the credit check (the 3 mentioned) plus a second one of any ID.
Anyway, doesn't matter as I am not going to switch to Koodo. I am going to stay with my current provider.
