Koodo's Uptrade program was implemented recently to allow customers to trade in their old phone for a rebate on a new phone when purchased from Koodo, we're mostly all aware of this at this point. This is a good idea, but I think that it can be made better. I suggest that instead of the rebate going toward the price of a new phone directly it should work out to be a Tab credit. That way Koodo customers aren't forced to upgrade to a Koodo phone specifically and can clear their Tab a little more quickly. Example: Tom starts up with Koodo and gets a Samsung Galaxy Ace II x on the Tab, he pays $0 up front and gets the $50 Canada Wide plan. Tom saves up for 10 months because he wants an iPhone 5 but doesn't like the idea of being stuck in a three year term. Tom purchases his iPhone directly from an Apple store and plans to activate with Koodo. Tom then returns the Galaxy Ace ii to the Kiosk, the dealer then checks the value of the phone (let's say it's worth $100) and applies it to the Tab. It's been ten months at 5 Tab points per month, Tom's Tab is cleared, he then applies the 10% SIM-only discount because he has no intention of ever buying a different phone and his saving up pays for itself.
