is the $10 off your monthly bill taken off before or after gst, pst applied to my bill?
IE, $60 -$10 = $50 then gst and pst added or $56 montly bill
or

$60 + gst, pst then $10 taken off that amount. $67.20-$10 +$57.20 monthly bill
definately makes a difference.

Telus (being the parent company) is doing the same

This has been the practice with Telus and family of companies since 2018/2017 after they lost their court case with the CRA with how they treat credits (ie like a coupon/rebate, etc).

If I recall correctly, discounts are applied after tax.

@War0056a This page here should give you all the details on how bill credits and taxes are applied:

https://www.koodomobile.com/en/help/billcredits

We do have to follow both Canada Revenue and accounting guidance principles in order to be compliant, hence the structure of credits.

I don’t think your promotion is being truthful then by saying you get $10 OFF YOUR monthly bill. You only get $8.45,  Saying you have to follow Govt tax guidelines is a red herring. Your company only takes $8.45 and the Govt takes the remainder off my gst,pst..  If your promotion was being truthful then it should say that I get $10 off my monthly bill AFTER taxes. Why don’t you say this?
Any other company I have dealt with that offers promotional discounts take the discount off up front and then I pay the gst/pst only on the reduced price. Yours is just another way companies try to make it look better than it actually is and hide their actual discount.
For instance, when I look at my Telus home bill for internet, I get a $10 promotional discount off the MONTHLY RATE then I pay the gst/pst on that reduced amount. If Telus can do it this way then Koodo can do it as well, Like I said, it’s just another way of hiding your actual cost and trying to make it looke better than it is.
60 plus taxes is $67.20 minus $10 is $57.20 cost to me…
60 - 10 + 50 plus taxes (gst/pst 2.50/3.50) + $56
So I’m paying $1.20 more a month than I should be.. Time for Koodo to get honest with it’s clients.
