What happens when I port my number away from Koodo?

This might seem like an odd situation. I want to try Wind Mobile for a month or two to see how it works, with the option of switching back to Koodo and without losing my account. Can I just keep paying my monthly Koodo bill, even if I port my number to Wind? Would it be straightforward to port my number back to Koodo after a couple months? Thanks.

As soon as you port your number from Koodo, your account is cancelled, and you will have to pay any outstanding amount still owing (service, tab etc) Better suggestion is to just keep the koodo account, open a seperate wind account, and if wind is better for you (although I hope you don't travel outside their zones) then just port your koodo number over then, after trying wind for a few months.

One question. If I sign up with Wind, with a new SIM card and phone number, does that mean I can switch between Wind and Koodo, and their respective phone numbers just by switching the SIM card?

Yes. If you intend on switching the SIMs back and forth though, make you sure you have unlocked phones, and make sure they're AWS enabled. Then, make an educated choice 🙂

Thanks for clearing things up. I've got the Nexus 5 😉 Now that I'm looking, it might not be compatible, frequency-wise...

Turns out it does support AWS. It's just not clearly stated.

Every Nexus since the Galaxy Nexus has had compatibility with every carrier in Canada, so have no worries Chris, it'll work without any modifications 🙂
Please be advised that when switching from a nationwide carrier like Koodo to an Urban or "one-tower-spectrum" like Wind, poor service and roaming fees can affect you.

Yeah, that's why I'm going to try it for a month or two before porting my number away from Koodo.

If you don't feel like giving out the new number you can always forward your koodo calls to your new number.
