new iphone and old sim card

If I get a newer unlocked Iphone can I just insert the sim card from my old Iphone and I’m ready to go?

All the data is backed up from my old Iphone.

Is there anything else that I need to do?

Just to make sure I understand correctly what you are saying:

as long as the SIM card for both the new and old Iphones are the same size everything is a GO.
if the SIM card from the old Iphone does not fit in the new Iphone I can get a different one from Koodo.

Is my understanding correct?
