New feature phone - existing Koodo SIM not recognized. Troubleshooting help much appreciated.

My Alclatel Idol 3 broke and I'm doing the mail-in repair thing. In the meantime I'm phoneless so bought a cheap feature phone to fill the gap - a BLU Diva Flex 2.4. Problem is, the Diva isn't recognizing my SIM card. The phone was bought unlocked from Amazon and Koodo's IMEI checker says that the phone should work.

The Diva does take full size SIMs and I'm trying to use a micro SIM with adapter. With the adapter, the phone seems to recognize that a SIM is installed but will only allow for emergency calls. When I switch from automatic to manual network searching the only network that pops up is Rogers. I've also factory reset the phone, turned airplane mode on and off, cycled the battery and SIM.

So. What am I missing here? Should I just go get a new SIM from Koodo for this phone? Time is precious at the moment. Are there other troubleshooting steps I can take?

Thanks in advance.

Since Rogers is the only network that shows, I wonder if this is a 2G phone, as Rogers has the only 2G network in Canada. This ad suggests it is 2G only.

Hello D Williams,

What are the frequencies the phone uses?

According to Blu's product page for the phone, it only works on 2G, which is why you only see Rogers for network selection. Unfortunately this phone will not work on Koodo / Telus.
Thanks folks. The phone is 2G capable, but not 2G-only. The sales guide says the frequencies are GSM 850/900/1800/1900. http://s536785483.onlinehome.us/salesguides/images/salesguides/diva-flex-24-sg.pdf

Oh wait - maybe it is 2G only.

Well, thanks!
