International Voice/Data Roaming Add-On via Text

So, there may be problems with this that I haven't thought of but here's the idea...
When you travel outside of North America you receive a text if you don't have the International Voice or Data Roaming or International Pay-Per Use add-ons with an option to respond yes to apply one to your account.

This would work in the same way adding the US roaming add-ons would work.
With this, a customer will know whether or not they currently have the add-on(s), and they can easily be added if the customer wants/needs them without the need of finding an internet connection to login to self serve, calling Koodo, etc.

I think this is a terrific idea! I imagine this could be implemented in a similar fashion to the shock-free data SMS?
It could offer the following options:
  1. Add roaming package
  2. Pay per use roaming
  3. Disable roaming or keep roaming disabled
Given that Canadians rake up a sizeable wireless bill due to roaming and overage fees, this would definitely give Koodo quite the advantage in retaining its existing customers who happen to travel outside of Canada.

That's right Titan, Telus has implemented this in certain Airports like in Calgary International Airport, where customers get a SMS asking them to add roaming package while in the Calgary airport. A lot more convenient than waiting until you arrive in your destination.

That makes sense, Calgary's most likely Alberta's bigger international airport, Télus's home province. But could they pass this feature onto Koodo? Would be cool to see it launched for major int'l airports across Canada.

Yeah! and the cool part about it is that the network is configured to determine if you work at the airport.

Unless they have previously added the international voice roaming add on, their phone would not connect to the international network to allow them to send a text. The suggestion to add it, as well as their response would need to be sent while they were still in Canada.

That's the thing that I couldn't think of, thank you.
I guess the only way around this would be if there was a way to disable texting and calling with the exception of texting Koodo, while allowing you to be connected to international networks. Something that I don't know is possible.
Or send the user a text if they are at an airport but I think that would be confusing for people driving by an airport, or going to an airport without the intentions of leaving the country and getting a message telling them about roaming add-ons.
