Can I "take" a number from another line on my account and use it on my new line? (it's a better plan)

I am adding a new line to my account. Can I "take" a number from another line on my account and use it on my new line? (it's a better plan) That way, that person can keep their old number and the existing plan person can have a new number. (which is ok)

Hi Ken, No you'd have to port the number you want out to another carrier and then port the number back in to the line on the account you want it on, you can't just take the number and leave the plan with an unassigned number. Porting out the number would automatically cancel the line on the account and you'd have to open a new line again and pick a new in market plan. You'd also have to pay off any owing tab amount once the line is cancelled due to porting out.
You'd have to take over the plan and number by taking the person's SIM Card but that won't achieve getting the plan you have with the number you want.

Why not just move the SIM from the 'better' plan?  The number and plan will be transferred to the new phone. The new line can be given to the person who you would have assigned the old 'better' plan.

He wants the number from the worse plan but wants to put the number on the better plan, both are on the same account. So if he took just the SIM from the better plan he wouldn't get the number he wants on his already better plan.

I want to keep the old plan so I'd just have to do a number change on it to keep it. Then I could activate the new plan with a new sim and assign the old number to it. That is, if that number would become available...

It is not doable without losing the number that is currently on the old plan you want to keep
