Unable to verify credit card

I wanted to buy a booster for my prepaid card. But I get error message "unable to verify credit card". Is it because Koodo self-serve does not accept credits that are not issued in Canada?

IIRC, If you have an international credit card, you have to call in and register it  before you use it.

There is no mention in self-serve that we need to call to register international cards. Anyway, I called but they can't register my card also. The lady said I tried too many times to register my cards in self-serve. I gave her another credit card number that I did not tried in self-serve. She can't register that card also. She has made a request to Koodo to register my card but it will take 3 to 5 business days. All this could have been avoided if Koodo spell out on their website that WE MUST CALL TO REGISTER INTERNATIONAL CREDIT CARDS! And please give us a telephone number that we can call from overseas. I have to call the postpaid hotline and request them to connect me to prepaid hotline. Koodo is very unfriendly to tourists using their prepaid SIM cards!

It's mentioned under their FAQ: Topping up your prepaid account
Just so you know
  • Only a credit or Visa Debit card with a Canadian/U.S. address can be registered to your account. Other International credit/Visa Debit cards are not accepted.

And under the Billing and payment section
  • We only accept Canadian credit cards and Visa Debit. If you want to pay with an international card, give us a call and we'll help you out by registering it.
But, I agree that this little note should be on the same page that you register your credit card.

But it does not tell you how to register international credit cards!

Look at the second bullet point above. "If you want to pay with an international card, give us a call and we'll help you out by registering it."

Why did they put that info in 2 separate sections? Koodo should also tell us what number to call from outside Canada. Totally unfriendly to tourists from outside Canada.

You'll find the same st gas stations, where you will need to get your card authorized inside the store, rather than at the pump.

The credit card form offers a dropdown for the country, but doesn't inform about the exception for international cards – instead it says it coudn't verify the card.

That's really user unfriendly. The system knows that only Canadian Cards will work, it let's the user fail gloriously without any help.

Shame on the designers.

I need a booster data add-on right now but if it takes 3-5 days to register, why bother... (because I just moved and I wanted to have some data on my phone until we get internet at home in 5 days!) I would never go with Koodo ever again in the future, so lame.
What's the point of having a credit card if it doesn't work? Yes it's from another country but it works mostly in many websites/shops. And I don't think they're willing to change anything about this because this conversation started 5 months ago...
Shame on you Koodo.

To be honest, I have to register one my canadian American Express for pre-authorized because it flagged it as international. I’m not really sure why international credit cards has to be registered when you can use it to buy stuff on stores and online but I believe it is just a security thing to prevent fraud. If anyone else can shed a light
