Koodo Prepaid available to residents across Canada?

Is Koodo Prepaid available to residents across Canada? I have a family member who would love to sign up but tells me he cannot because he lives in Bancroft Ontario. Doesnt seem right. Would he be misinformed?

Yes, they certainly should be able to sign up, it's available anywhere where there is a network.

The only restriction is what's left of the CDMA network. There is nothing for prepaid or postpaid in general for where you are able to get it. The only restriction your family member might be referring to is if there is network coverage in Bancroft.

I took a look at the coverage map and coveragemapper.com and theres coverage in Bancroft for Koodo/Telus. In fact there's LTE now. Your family member was likely told incorrectly or was told at a time that it was true that there wa none or minimal coverage in the area.

Carriers can only sell plans (pre- or post-paid) if they themselves provide coverage in an area. Post-paid plans are permitted to roam (at no charge) in areas where there is coverage by other Canadian partners (extended coverage). That's the EXT that may show up on your phone's title bar.

Pre-paid plans do not include this extended roaming.

That's the reason why WIND doesn't sell outside a few metro areas and won't ship to Quebec and other places. It also keeps things tidy and protected for other provincial locals. Thank the Feds for the free roaming but a limited marketing area as well.

I think in this particular case, it's probably a quesiton of the rep being misinformed.
