Changing plan to Pre Paid


trying to change my account to a pre paid account (as I will be out of the country for a few months) I had been told by Koodo to go to self serve tab , enter SIM and iMei number to be able to do this ....however I get the response that SIM card number is invalid...I have double checked the number on my account and this is the SIM card number...what am I doing wrong?

You need to buy a prepaid sim. Then activate it. Then port your number over. This will effectively cancel your monthly account. You will be given your final bill with your remaining tab Charge and everything. Have you thought about putting your account on a seasonal hold for $15/month? Or better yet, 7-11's speak out prepaid service is a cheaper way to keep your number while paying way less than at Koodo prepaid
Thank you so much...I'll check out Speak Out..that might be the best option for me. I have been told a few different things about changing my current plan to pre-paid...no one have told me I have to now purchase a pre paid SIM card..I was told I cud change the current one I bought to activate my phone when I returned to Canada 2 months ago....seems like a lot of work just to have a pay as you go phone!

Yea they are 2 different systems so you need a specific prepaid sim. It costs $20 but comes with a $20 prepaid credit

Very sorry to say you were informed wrong, Sandra 😞 No matter what carrier to port out to, you'll always need another SIM card. Koodo even has different SIM cards for postpaid and prepaid, as Dennis mentioned. If you don't want any hassle, the seasonal hold is the easiest option 🙂

I just cancelled the account....I wont be back in Canada for at least a year so no point holding onto the number
