What exactly is blackberry basic?

Blackberry Basic provides unlimited BBM, unlimited messaging, Call Forwarding, Call Display and Voicemail.

Android and iPhone don't technically get it "free", the app itself is free but it requires either WiFi or data connections. BB 10 is the same way. BB basic is incompatible with BB 10 and can only be used on BB 7 and earlier devices (curves/bolds/torches) because data access was mandatory for BBM to work on those phones, so this add-on enabled it without getting a data bucket plan.
