If I live in the Halifax Area and my Area Code is 902 and my friends call me from the Halifax Area and their Area Code is 902 how come it is telling them my number is long distance even tho I am home.?

If they dial a one this message will stop...

The system is like this because Canada wide long distance wasn't always included in every plan. So by dealing a one first, you're telling the system that you're aware the call may be a long distance call. Even though it's not. A caveat to this may be if your friends exchanges (the three numbers after the area code) are in fact long distance to your area.
