So frustrated with 'free' images texts

I've been with koodo for quite a few years, generally I love it. But since getting a new phone in january I can no longer receive text images without my data being on, an issue I never had before. Given that clients will email me images through the day, and I don't have a data plan, the only solution Koodo has offered is 'But a Data plan so that you can use your FREE service'. I'm sorry, but that is BULL. Anyone else with a BETTER suggestion?

Getting picture messages (mms) always required data to be enabled. Only with new phones these days there are a lot if background apps also chew through data without your knowledge. My suggested work around is to enable data when you are connected to a strong wifi signal. This way background apps will run in the background through wifi while you picture can come through cellular data.
CDMA phones worked differently than HSPA phones. HSPA phones have always required a mobile data connection to send/receive picture messages.

@Liz, you don't have to have a data plan, just your data cannot be blocked either on your account or on your phone. To add to Dennis' suggestion you can also set your apps, at least most, to work only when wi-fi is available.

Hi Liz, If you have a CDMA phone, you phone will no longer work starting April 1 because the CDMA network is being phased out by Telus.

That's not 100% true; the data is being shut off only in BC and AB, but the total phase out will finish by next year.

Do they have plans to refarm those frequencies for use with something else? I'm curious to see what will happen with the CDMA bands.

Like the analog signal, CDMA signals are being phased out so they aren't going to be used anymore.

Frequencies are always analog by nature Kane, but we do get to choose what they carry by doing analog-to-digital conversion. That 700MHz spectrum that was auctioned weeks ago? It used to carry analog TV channels for many years. Now it will carry super modern digital bits of data instead. They can do whatever they want with the frequencies that carry CDMA signal. It can be refarmed just like any other signal. Some are more valuable because of their reach or ability to penetrate thick walls or buildings, but any freq can carry anything we want.
