prorate data confusion

So I'm thinking about changing my plan this month from a 6GB plan to a 12GB plan but I'm confused about how prorating works with data. I'm currently about half way through my billing cycle. Will the data I used so far impact the amount that I have after switching or will it be on top of what I've used so far. For example if ive used 5GB of data and it prorated to 6GB of data does that mean I only have 1GB left or 6GB that I can still use.

Hi
Only new plan data is prorated. Your old 6GB usage would not be calculated.

So if you changed your plan mid cycle, you would only have 12Gb/2 = 6GB for the remaining 1/2 cycle.
So when you switch your plan does the data basically reset but your only allowed to use so much of the new plans data?
