I had the same problem. I arranged a callback through their chat option in self serve and it appears that there may be an issue in their system if you buy a new phone but keep your existing plan. It sounded like customers with new plans do not experience this.
The Koodo rep was very nice and it only took a few minutes to resolve this, she made a change, I rebooted my phone and everything is back to normal. Also be sure to check your account through self serve and check your usage cycle (I think it was) and see if there are any charges that have been added to your account and ask for them to be reversed as I had small charges for both messaging and data.
