Moving from TELUS to Koodo, a couple questions

Hello! I have a few questions. I'm interested in switching from TELUS to Koodo and since they are the owned by the same company, I'm curious as to how a few things work.

1. I want to upgrade my phone. Is this possible online? How does this process work if you order the phone online? Do you keep your current phone active ( can that switch to Koodo through them online? ) until your new phone arrives and you switch it over? I want to port my number as well.

2. Are credit checks still mandatory if it's just a switch from TELUS to Koodo? What kind of a credit score is roughly needed?

3. Is there like a 15-30 day return guarantee on the phone if there are any problems with it, I decide I want a different phone or something like that?

4. If I just switch plans and keep my current phone as is, can I still get the deal on the new phone later in store? (it's part of the summer sale, the Samsung Galaxy A70 at $0 for $15/month on the tab medium. Was interested in the $50 plan)

Is it all easier to do in the store?? I just might not be able to go for a while and want to at least snag the plan. I also want to waive the $35 activation fee. I can't keep my current "loyalty" plan with TELUS if I ever want a new phone, so that's pretty much the reason I'm switching.

By the way, I wasn't sure where exactly to put this, so I hope this is okay. xD

  1. You can sign up and get a new phone in that case. Once you get your phone you will get a self serve confirmation email. From there, you can login to your self serve and port your number
  2. Yes credit checks are mandatory for all new customers. There is no specific minimum score.
  3. all phones have a 15 day return policy as long as it has all its packaging and no damage to it.
  4. Yes as long as your plan qualifies for the tab you are getting. Here is more info on https:// https://www.koodomobile.com/help/keeping-or-changing-your-plan-when-you-upgrade-your-phone
  5. Yes it is easier to do in store since there is a rep to guide you and help you along. But yes there is the $35 activation fee when done in store.
  6. If you have a great Loyalty Plan with Telus that you cant get anywhere else, I honestly would recommend keeping it and just buying a phone outright from online and not through Telus,

Hi,
Although Koodo and Telus are from the same company, operations and customers are separated, you would have to apply to Koodo as a new customer.

  1. Here is the link to help you https://www.koodomobile.com/help/article-categories/buying-online-0
  2. Yes, but your record from Telus will be referenced also, as long as you are in good term with Telus, you should be fine.
  3. There is a 15 days return/refund period.
  4. You can't "switch", you would have to choose a new plan from Koodo. You could reuse Telus phone if you would like. And if you buy a phone later you will have to follow their policy here https://www.koodomobile.com/help/keeping-or-changing-your-plan-when-you-upgrade-your-phone
You could go to a store and pay the $35 fee. However, some retail (wallmart, bestbuy... ) has some extra gift card to compensate for it. There isn't a "loyalty" plan when you switch to a new carrier.

My loyalty plan isn't the greatest which is another reason I want to switch. I pay $55/month for 1GB data (originally was 500MB, the 1GB was extra for a hassle in the past). I could pay slightly less & get more data with Koodo, soooo yeah.
