Increasing my Data plan increased my Data usage?

Userlevel 2
I increased my data plan today and suddenly my phone appears to be using far more data than before with each use. Samsung note 2. very strange indeed. I try turning off all apps other than the one I want to access. Email Usually.

Take a look at the following. Sudden surges in data usually indicate some setting has been changed. Perhaps you were being frugal before and limiting yourself to wifi and now the mobile data tap is on full-blast. I usually use mobile data only for checking email, not for downloading and streaming on my Note 2, and have a hard time using more than 80 megs a month by following this scenario: Data and how to make the most of it. http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/data-and-how-to-make-the-most-of-it

Yes I turn it on and off for email when wifi is not available. I learned to turn Data off a while ago, thanks.

Can you give a ballpark number for "far more data than before with each use"? Did you do the rikkster Google Play setting for WiFi only? Otherwise, if you turn on data momentarily to check your email and there are updates waiting for your phone, they will start downloading right away.

Good question. Hard to say but on the order of 2 x as much not 20 x. I have been going onto wifi all day and off and on around the data use too. So not an update issue here. I have been looking at that clear RAM page. Wondering whether to do it and whether it could make me redo a bunch of things like passwords that I might rather not. Perhaps it was even on somehow in the background. However I closed off everything in the background this morning and turned on data. Then after a brief period on the order of up to a minute at most, I then checked data and found that some amount had been used! 282 KB. I'm pretty sure I was not up past midnight pacific time where I live but perhaps I'll check on that.

Perhaps one of the issues here goes back to my usage as one might have imagined right from the get go. Perhaps I'd been extra careful not to use anything other than email or a quick piece of research... and perhaps once I had more data I felt free to broaden my use a bit and be more lax and less vigilant... considering...
