If I upgrade to a new koodo phone on line do I have to change from my existing koodo plan?

My old phone is on its way out. I just want to replace it but it seems when I try to buy a new phone on line the system also wants me to "buy' a new plan. Can't I just keep my old one?

It all depends on the device and which tab size you are trying to use. You can keep the same plan by purchasing an unlocked or Koodo phone privately you would also get 10% off if your tab has been cleared already. Otherwise if you go with a tab.. Medium for example.. You would have yo change your plan because the tab m has a 5$ charge attached to it. You must have the current plan with the tab medium to use that tab discount! They do that so your device will be paid off itself within 2 years or less. Some of those older plans wouldn't be able to make the cut at the 2 year mark! Good luck! 🙂

Simply said: certainly you can keep your plan 🙂 You'll qualify for tab S if your current plan is less than $30 and Tab S or Tab M if it $30 or more 🙂

But my way is cheaper 😉

If you are close to a koodo store I would buy it there. It's just easier.

Also, when purchasing a phone through a Koodo kiosk you get the added benefit of having a 15 day return policy as opposed to other retailers having shorter ones (normally 14 days, but the extra day helps). Just thought I'd add that in there 🙂
OK Thanks! Buying an unlocked phone was mentioned. I'm assuming that means from some place other than Koodo. If I do that what do I have to watch out for to ensure the phone is compatible with Koodo's service.

You just have make sure the phone isn't blacklisted (reported as stolen) if you decide to buy a used phone. Also the phone has to support HSPA 850/1900 so pretty much any north american model phone will work but double check to make sure.

Also if you choose to bring an unlocked phone you can use Koodos program to see if the phone is compatible with their network, I've provided a link for you to have a look at so you know what you are looking for.

http://help.koodomobile.com/getting-s... Another thing to mention is that if that is the route you choose you would qualify for a 10% discount off your monthly plan as long as you do not have any tab remaining on your account. Hope that helps 🙂

When you buy a phone from Koodo, it is "locked" to Koodo. And it can be used only Koodo network. Unlocked phone can be used on different network if it's compatible with them. Say if you travel to other countries, you can buy a local prepaid sim card and use it. Or if you switch your provider, you buy a sim card from them and you can use it on your phone.
OK so I've got my new phone (exactly the same as 2 I had previously purchased from Koodo but I did do the process suggested above to verify it's good to go). Can I now just put my old sim card into my new phone or do I have to let Koodo know or something?

Thanks! I'm thinking about also buying a lower priced smart phone for occasional use. I can't use it all the time because of my "job/lifestyle" (livestock farming). I tried that before and the phone lasted 8 days. If I buy from Koodo can I switch back and forth (it will have a different size sim card therefor can't swap cards) so I assume I have to do something on line????? or is this not possible? TIA

Sure you can 🙂 I just did it this morning from my M8(nano sim) to Moto G(micro sim). You can do this through self serve: Self serve > Mobile Phone > Swap Mobile Phone Step 1 : "Upgrade my current phone" Step 2 : "Does the new phone you're upgrading to use a SIM card?" Select "yes", and enter a new sim # then continue Your sim card will be expired after 90 days, so don't forget to re-activate the other one.

Can I swap back and forth maybe once a week or is this just a one time thing?

You can swap your sim card any time. Mind you, your sim card will be expired after 90 days without re-activating.
